Christmas Market
An old German Tradition...

You can find happiness in a mix of unique gift ideas, old-day charm and holiday cheers as the Dublin Christkindlmarket brings a taste of Germany to Dublin during the November 25th through December 09th.

How it began...

Christmas Markets have a very long tradition in Germany. The oldest one is the Striezelmarkt in Dresden, which looks back on 600 years of history. Initially, these markets were held to give craftsmen like basket makers, toy makers, and confectioners a chance to sell their goods for Christmas. For centuries, markets were the only way to offer and sell to a wider public and so these special crafts were given the chance to also sell their crafts in winter right before the Christmas break. As these markets always and at all times were very popular, there were always delicious things like roasted almonds, nuts and chestnuts offered besides toys and useful things. Now the Christmas Market is not only popular in Germany. You can find them also in other parts of Europe and some American areas, for example Chicago. The Christmas Market is a place where friends and family come together for good food and drinks, fun, fellowships, and of course to find the perfect holiday gift in a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere.

There are choirs singing or music is playing in the background and the kids can enjoy the handicraft corner... find more details under Events. Please welcome the old tradition and add it to your own wonderfully shining and heart-warming celebration of the Christmas time!
