November 09, 2013 - November 09, 2013 - CONFIRMED!
From Ricefest Website:
The City of Riceboro is pleased to announce Ricefest 2013 to be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 9:00 am. Ricefest pays homage to Riceboro's history in rice and the Geechee culture. We have planned a cultural extravaganza and encourage you to take part in this weekend full of excitement and fun. Our star attraction this year is Jeff Floyd!
The Riceboro Ricefest is an annual celebration held the second weekend of November honoring rice farming, which was a major economic activity in the coastal region of Liberty County in the City of Riceboro, Georgia. The first Ricefest was held in downtown Riceboro in 2000. The event is now a week-long event held in Riceboro, next to the Riceboro City Hall.
The festival also commemorates the legacy of the people who lived in the coastal areas of the United States. These people were called Gullah Geechee and have influenced the coastal areas of North Carolina to northern Florida with their culture, through music, language and food.
The festival includes, the Ricefest Parade, Rice Cook-Off, Friday Night "Homecoming" Concert, Talent & Step Show and Miss Ricefest Pageant. The festival also features food made with rice which is strong in Gullah Geechee. There are many historical exhibits and demonstrations, local entertainment, and Hourly Prize Giveaways have been planned as part of the celebration.
